Close but not close enough
Yesterday was not great for Joba, he had a terrible inning and another so-so one in his 4 innings of work. Then Chad Gaudin gave up another 3 runs all earned in his 3.2 innings.

In the ninth inning the Yankees came within a run of tying the game! It was exciting until the last blown call by the umpire. The Rangers shortstop, Elvis Andrus, caught the liner hit by Melky then doubled off Ramiro Pena on a clear missed call by the second base umpire.
Joba has been absolutely terrible in his last two starts and hasn’t been on his best game in all of August. This is really worrying me because going down the stretch if we only have AJ and CC as pitchers that are dependable we are not in good shape! With Andy, Joba, and Gaudin/Mitre you never really know whats going to happen especially with the Gaudin and Mitre. The Red Sox are picking up steam as we are finishing out the season and I don’t want them to have momentum in their favor when the playoffs start, nobody does really! Hopefully all will be sorted out today when the Yanks play the Rangers again!
Godzilla Strikes Again!

Wow that was NOT what I expected at all! But the Yankees won and that’s all that matters to me and this is how it happened:
Yesterday, Matsui had his second multi-homer game in this series. This time they were just solo-shots but it’s still amazing. Those two were of five the others coming from Derek Jeter which came on the first pitch of the game, Robby Cano, and A-Rod with a man first.

Matsui connects with the first pitch in the second for his first homer.

Cano is congratulated after his solo homer.

A-Rod hits his 2-run homer.

Matsui’s second homer of the night in the 8th inning
Five Homers is the most homers Beckett has ever given up in one game in his career. In total he gave up 8 runs all earned. He’s only given up 8 runs twice this year and both times were against the Yankees.
CC had a great game he went 6.2 innings and gave up 3 earned, 8 K’s, no walks, and 8 hits. Not his best by any means but I’ll take it when we get 5 homers off Beckett. But our defense was pretty sloppy, or at least Cano was, he made 2 errors one on a terrible call on a pop up. He called off Teixeira then promptly missed it! That was pathetic and his terrible defense of late has destroyed his gold glove chances if he ever had any.
But other than those bad plays it was an AMAZING game the Yankees are now 7.5 games up in the Division. This series went nothing like I thought it would I thought we’d win the first 2 in complete blowout fashion, on that I was half correct. And I thought the last game would be a pitchers duel ’till the end. . . and I was wrong again. But winning is wayyy better than my predictions so THANK YOU Yankees for a great series.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Jeter’s lead off homer (21st of his career) put the momentum in the Yankees favor and it would stay there for the rest of the game.
You win one you lose one
Today was anything but what I was expecting! Here is what i expected to happen:
- Yankees get to Tazawa early.
- Then they get into the weak-of-late bullpen.
- AJ pitches like an Ace like he so often does.
- The Yankees bullpen keeps the lead.
- Jeter gets another multi-hit game (He went hitless instead)
- And all is good in Yankee land
But this is what happened:

And. . .

And. . .

O yeah and this too

Isn’t that what you felt like too fellow Yankees fans.
I guess this should have been expected we couldn’t have had a big offensive outburst after yesterday but that’s what I was hoping for the whole game! Tomorrw should be much different the 2 aces of the teams are pitching, but what do I know this is a Sox/Yankees game nothing ever turns out the way you think it will!
There are two things I have to tell Joe Girardi and the Yankees:
- Please, Please, PLEASEEEE don’t put Hinske in left ever again at Fenway, I’d rather have Damon and his half broken throwing arm out there than Hinske right now. He looks like a lost dog out there for God’s sake!!!

(Actually he goes by the name of Hinske)
2. Never, ever pitch AJ Burnett at Fenway either! He now has a 12.91 ERA there this season and I don’t want that to go up anymore!
PLAY OF THE GAME

Kevin Youkilis’s 3-run homer in the Second really broke it open for the Sox and killed the Yankees confidence for the game.
YANKEES PLAY OF THE GAME

Nick Swisher’s solo shot in the seventh inning. Pretty much the only thing worth mentioning in a good way about the Yankees game today!
Blowout in Beantown
The score says pretty much all you need to hear 20-11 Yankees win. If you interpret the score correctly it means that our pitching sucked but their’s was even worse. Although neither team put their best pitchers out there which is probably the true reason for the bloated score. I mean c’mon Joe wouldn’t have put Mitre into a game with the Sox unless it was a total massacre, he also wouldn’t have kept Bruney in the game after loading the bases then walking in a run. And I’m pretty sure Francona wouldn’t have put that Bowden guy into a close game either. But all excuses aside for both team WE won and WE crushed them.

Pettitte did not pitch well at all but he pitched well enough to pick up the W
Pettitte started for the Yankees and gave up 7 runs 5 earned in 5+ innings of work. I think he caught a bad break when that ball dropped between Hinske and Melky that should’ve been an error, no doubt in my mind, but instead they charged Pettitte with another ER and it was the final pitch he threw in the game.
I am very, VERY happy that Mr. Godzilla was able to return to the Yankees! Last night he was the guy who snapped Boston’s back. The Yankees sure have a way of hitting homers off of Red Sox rookies! Earlier this month A-rod hit a walk off homer off of Junichi Tazawa the Japanese imported pitcher. Then last night Matsui hits his first homer of the game vs. recently called up Michael Bowden. Hopefully this trend will continue into today’s game when Tazawa takes on AJ Burnett.

There were some interesting facts about this game other than it was a complete beatdown:
1. Last night’s game ws the highest combined scoring game in a Yankees/Red Sox matchup ever. With 31 runs scored.
2. It was the first triple hit by A-rod since May 31, 2006.
3. Every player on the Yankees with at least 2 AB’s had an RBI, a hit, and a run. That is amazing!
The ONLY bad thing happening yesterday is the Rangers lost which means the Sox keep their 1.5 game lead in the Wild Card. But beating the Rangers was the Rays who are now just 3 games behind the Sox in the Wild Card!
PLAY OF THE GAME

Matsui’s second homer of the game making the score 19-7
Yanks win last game of long road trip
Yesterday’s game was great. For one the Yankees won, Chad Gaudin did not pitch like himself in a good way, Teixeira had an amazing game getting all three of the Yankees RBI’s (two on a home run), and Jeter had his 5th multi-hit game in a row.

Chad Gaudin left a bit of a situation to the Bullpen but our savior Ace got out of the jam with a 1-2-3 DP almost identical to the one A-Rod hit into a couple nights ago. At the end of the game Rivera picked up his 36th save making the final score 3-2 in the Yankees favor.

The lead over the Sox is still at 7 with them beating the Jays 6-1. It seems like Ortiz is back on the rice and beans of late with his sudden surge of homers. Sadly the Red Sox seem to have found there groove and are just as hot as the Yankees lately but hopefully that will all change when the Yankees make themselves at home at Fenway.
Tonight the Sox have a chance to move a half game up in the Division since we are idle today. But even if they sweep the next series that would still leave the Yanks 3.5 games up which is AWESOME! All I can hope for is that we sweep the series at fenway putting us up 9.5 or 10.5 games. Sounds pretty good to me!
PLAY OF THE GAME

Teix’s 2-run blast in the 4th making the score 3-0 and putting up his 2nd and 3rd ribbies of the night. He was all the offense the Yankees needed for their 3-2 win.
Thank You!
I don’t have time to write much today sadly but here it goes. The Yankees crushed the A’s 7-2 and had an offensive explosion for the first time in 5 days when they pummeled the Mariners 11-1 also when CC pitched. Jeter had his third straight 3-hit game and is on a role! The thing I like the most about this is that the Yankees WON ending their small 2-game slide. The other thing I loved about this game is that now I don’t have to miss the series finale which I said I’d do if they lost yesterday.

CC had a great game and made an amazing play off of a Nomar Garciappara line drive. His record is now at 14-7 and is tied for the most wins in the Majors with Adam Wainwright and Josh Beckett. Sadly the Red Sox also won so the Yanks didn’t get to extend their already robust lead to 8.
PLAY OF THE GAME

Derek Jeter’s go-ahead RBI single in the sixth, putting the Yankees up for the first time 3-2.
Ex-Yankee becomes Yankee Killer
Yesterday’s game was pretty much as bad as the Seattle game. This time it was the offense that didn’t come through going 0-6 with RISP. The defining moment was when A-Rod grounded into a 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded to end the only threaght the Yankees really gave to the A’s all game. Tomko was amazing today going 5 shutout innings vs. his former team. Why couldn’t he do that for us?!?!?!?!
The one good play for the Yankees was when Johnny Damon made a great over the shoulder catch in left field then he threw back into to Robinson Cano (Who’s hitting streak was ended at 14 yesterday) who ran it back to first base to double off the runner and end the inning. The sad thing is that AJ Burnett had a great game just one bad inning and he’s charged with the loss.

That face pretty much sums it up right? That’s pretty much what i was feeling like, the feeling was kind of like this: What?!? You mean we lost. . . again!!! That’s impossible!!! This team does not lose two games in a row repeat TWO games! This is unacceptable Yankees if you guys decide to lose tomorrow too I might just not watch the rest of the series! Yeah I said it I might miss on whole game Yankees so you better pick up the pace.
Here are some happy memories to remind you of the good times. . .

1921 Yankees – first year the Yankees won the World Series

Arguably the best Yankees team ever the 1998 Yankees celebrate their World Series sweep above.

Old timers day 2009 Yankees beat Tigers. . . and Joba Celebrates.

You might have to think wayyy back for this one, It’s Saturday the last Yankees win.
So Yankees remember the good times and keep your eye on the Trophy!
PLAY OF THE GAME

Nick Swisher’s missed diving effort gives Rajai Davis a double and starts the momentum for the A’s.
YANKEES PLAY OF THE GAME

Johnny Damon’s catch that started the double play
What Happened?!?
The once pitchers duel turned into a complete blowout for the Yankees. Joba was not sharp today, the offense wasn’t on it’s best game, and the bullpen just blew up in our faces today.

The Yankees started the game’s scoring in the second inning on Derek Jeter’s record breaking double. He now has 2,675 hits as a shortstop and 2,688 in his career (13 as DH).
But in the bottom of the inning Joba gave up 2 and gave up the lead. Until in the third Nick Swisher hit a 2-run homer for the second night in a row. But once again Joba decided to give up a 2 spot and the lead in the same inning.for the second time. After that it all pretty much fell apart for the Yankees. Two innings later the Mariners put up 5 runs making the score 9-4 before Kenji Johjima hit a homer to make the final score 10-4.
Also coming today is news that Hideki Matsui has a swollen left knee which could make him sit out the rest of the season, hopefully not! And in Robinson Cano’s lone at bat in the game he extended his hit streak to 14.
Even with the Yankees pathetic loss there was three positves:
1. The Red Sox lost. Thats always a plus.
2. Jeter got the hit that surpassed Luis Aparicio for first on the all time short stop hit-list.
3. And last but not least Nick Swisher hit his 20th Homer of the Season making it 5 straight seasons of 20+ homers for Nick.
PLAY OF THE GAME

Derek Jeter’s record breaking hit had to be the play of the game in this one even if the Yankees did lose. I think whoever is in charge of putting those messages up on the scoreboard deserves to be smacked for not putting up anything on Jeter’s record that was pretty disappointing! But it’s a record one way or another. Congratulations, Derek Jeter on another milestone reached in a Hall of Fame Career!
Matsui probably out for the rest the Season
This is going to be a short post. Hideki Matsui the Yankees’ DH is out indeffinitely with a swollen left knee.

His knees have been giving him problems for a couple years now. Ever since he had that wrist injury vs. the Red Sox he has been injured more often than not. Hopefully for the Yanks they don’t need Hideki for success. Let’s just hope.

Right now it is a pitchers duel in the Yankees game and the Red sox are losing so who knows what will happen.
Season highs and high fives.
Tonight was a good night! Mitre ( Who by the way needs a haircut) had his best start of the season giving up just 1 earned run in 5.1 innings but he did leave the bases loaded with an out in the 6th inning for David Robertson, who then struck the first 2 batters he faced. In fact all but 2 of the outs recorded by the bullpen were strike outs. They were just lights out!

The offense was on early in the game scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning but then they didn’t score aother run until Jeter’s blast in the 9th inning which made the score 5-2 which is where it would stay. Mo came into the game for the save, his MLB leading 35th of the season he also recorded 2 K’s leaving him nine away from 1,000 in his career.

Another positive about today is that Molina went 2-3 (And threw out the speedy Ichiro at third to end a threaght) against lefty French today keeping himself hot against LHP which could make it easier for Joe to give some rest to Jorge. And Robinson Cano’s hit streak is up to 13 games.
Also playing today was the Boston Red Sox against second place Texas Rangers. And the Rangers crushed the Sox 7-2 pulling within .5 a game in the Wild Card once again. The BoSox newly acquired Shortstop Alex Gonzalez went 0-fer 4 with a K and he grounded into a DP in his second Sox deput. I’m pretty sure that’s not what the sox were looking for in this trade but, Hey, I’m not gonna complain!
Now the Yankees are a season high 31 games over .500, 7.5 games in first place, and they have the best record after the all star break of any Yankees team ever at 23-6. Pretty good, huh?
On a different note, Where’s Michael Kay? I know a lot of people don’t like him, but he’s my favorite broadcaster for the Yankees and I’m really missing him these last few days. I don’t enjoy the other guys as much as him they just seem. . . boring! I mean c’mon guys your team is starting to run away with the division, they’re sweeping this series, everything is clicking and you guys are SOOO boring. Well I guess I’ll stop ranting about this but you get my point.
PLAY OF THE GAME

Nick Swisher’s two run blast in the second inning to break the score open to 4-1.
